Important Lesson about womens fashion...
Regardless of age, personal style, or current trends, the one thing that is always in fashion is dressing appropriately for your body. Despite the throngs of countless fashion columnists preaching their predictions and tips for this season’s must haves, these “of the moment” styles are not necessarily ideal for everyone. The best clothing option is the one that flatters the individual, not the one that emulates a runway look to a tee for the sake of being hip. Simply stated, blindly following trends is not equivalent to dressing well. The tendency to buy and dress based on trends alone is misguided for two key reasons: firstly, it is a poor investment because trendy pieces go out of style as fast as they fly off the shelves and, secondly, it can easily lead to outfit choices that do not flatter the wearer’s figure.
Far too often, women unknowingly commit this type of fashion faux pas under the impression that they look trendy and, as such, they must look good. False! The secret to stellar style is knowing how to highlight your best assets while playing down the attributes about which you are somewhat less enthusiastic. One unfortunately common mistake is the compulsion to wear skinny jeans. While 6-foot-tall, long-legged, lanky models can certainly work this look, it’s just not in the cards for everyone. If your legs aren’t your best asset (perhaps you are on the shorter side or carry your weight in your lower body), there is no reason to squeeze yourself into a pair of matchstick, skin-tight jeans. Instead, try a slim fitting style with a slight flair if you are more petite, and a dark-washed, wider leg cut if you want to downplay your bottom half.
Another frequent misstep we see is the regrettable misuse of “it” colors. If the color of the season happens to wash you out or downright clashes with your skin tone all together, there is no reason to buy a dress or top in that shade. It’s easy to incorporate a current color into your look by wearing it in an accessory such as a bag, jewelry, or shoes, which won’t conflict with your skin but will still reflect your up-to-date style.
A woman’s waist is another area where trends can deter her from wearing what is ultimately the most flattering piece of clothing. Despite the fact that loose-fitting, baggy shirts are all the rage, emphasize your feminine figure and slim core by always making sure to define your waist. Similarly, if your mid-section is not your best attribute, don’t feel compelled to don an eye-catching decorative belt for the sake of the trend.
Today’s lesson: it’s time to put an end to the trend obsession. The best ensemble is the outfit that complements your body and your personal style. Not only will you look better in what you’re wearing, you’ll feel more comfortable and confident showing off your best features.
